TIETOA PROJEKTISTA / ABOUT THE PROJECT

Tähän blogiin jotakin kautta törmättyäsi saatat pohtia, että "mikä ihme on ei-binäärinen vallankumous?", jonka vuoksi tämä sivu on omistettu siihen kysymykseen vastaamiselle.

Lyhyesti sanottuna ei-binäärinen vallankumous (tai the non-binary revolution) on valokuvaprojekti ei-binäärisistä ihmisistä Suomessa. Ai minkä ihmeen vuoksi? Koska tässä maailmassa on aivan liian vähän ei-binääristä representaatiota. Koska meitä ei näy elokuvissa, ei televisiossa, ei kirjallisuudessa, ei missään valtavirran mediassa, ja minä tahdon kantaa korteni kekoon tämän asian muuttamiseksi. Koska meidän muunsukupuolisten on joskus hirmuisen hankalaa löytää muita kaltaisiamme, ihmisiä joihin samaistua, ihmisiä joiden kanssa jutella samanlaisista kokemuksista, ihmisiä joiden tapaa ilmaista muunsukupuolisuuttaan tai ihmisiä joiden rohkeutta olla näkyvästi oma itsensä ihailla. Sen vuoksi tahdon luoda tästä sivusta tilan, johon kuka tahansa jonka sukupuoli ei sovi binääriin voisi tulla ja nähdä ettei hän ole yksin. Koska me olemme olemassa vaikkei tämän ja monen muun maan laki eikä suurin osa maailman ihmisistä tunnustakaan sitä. Me olemme siitä huolimatta täällä, olemassa, ja tämä projekti on iso "fuck you" kaikille niille valtioille joissa on vain kaksi sukupuolivaihtoehtoa, vielä isompi "fuck you" kaikille niille ihmisille jotka kieltävät meidän olemassaolon ja isoin mahdollinen "fuck you" kaikille niille jotka eivät suostu kunnioittamaan meitä sellaisina kuin me olemme. Ai miten niin? Koska kielsi meidät sitten kuka tahansa tai pilkkasi meitä sitten kuka tahansa niin me olemme silti muunsukupuolisia, silti arvokkaita emmekä katoamassa yhtikäs mihinkään, emmekä missään nimessä luovuttamassa meidän oikeutta olla me. Koska me ja meidän moninaiset kokemuksemme tarvitsevat näkyvyyttä, meidän äänemme ansaitsevat ja tarvitsevat tulla kuulluiksi tässä hyvin cisnormatiivisessa ja binäärisessä maailmassa, ja minä tahdon antaa niille kokemuksille ja äänille tilan. Koska suuremman osan ihmisiä täytyy saada tietää kuinka me vielä tänäkin päivänä taistelemme ihmisoikeuksistamme meidän binääristen trans sisarustemme kanssa tässä niin kutsutussa "hyvinvointivaltiossa". Koska tahdon levittää cis ihmisille ja binäärisille trans ihmisille tietoisuutta meistä, siitä kuinka kohdella meitä kunnioittavasti, kuinka käyttää meidät huomioon ottavaa kieltä. Koska muunsukupuolisuus on kaunista, ja minä tahdon näyttää sen maailmalle. Koska me emme suostu olemaan enää näkymättömiä. Koska meitähän ei vittu vaienneta.

Koen tämän projektin onnistuneeksi jos saan edes yhden muunsukupuolisen ihmisen tuntemaan olonsa hyväksi ja tärkeäksi, jos saan edes yhden meidän olemassaolon kieltävän ihmisen muuttamaan käsitystään, tai jos saan edes yhden näistä asioista tietämättömän ihmisen muuttamaan tapaansa puhua sukupuolesta meidät huomioon ottavaksi. Ja varsinkin silloin, jos olen onnistunut saavuttamaan tällä projektilla "non-binary doesn't have a look" tyyppisen kokonaisuuden, eli saavuttamaan tällä projektilla "non-binary doesn't have a look" tyyppisen kokonaisuuden, eli löytämään kuvattavakseni mahdollisimman moninaisia ihmisiä, enkä pelkästään valkoisia, laihoja, androgyynejä, vammattomia ja kristittyjä/ateisteja.

TIETOA TEKIJÄSTÄ

Minun nimeni on Syksy, olen sukupuoleton ja queer taiteilija sekä trans ihminen. Olen syntynyt vuonna 2000 ja asustelen Tampereella. Teen aktivismia pääasiassa LGBTQIA+ asioihin (etenkin transsukupuolisuuteen) liittyen, mutta pyrin tekemään sitä enemmän myös yleisesti ihmisoikeuksiin, eläinten oikeuksiin ja ympäristöön liittyen. Vaikka olenkin valokuvannut jo monta vuotta, pidän itseäni silti vielä jonkinlaisena aloittelijana. Kuvaan pääasiassa luontoa, mutta olen jo pitkän aikaa haaveillut pääseväni kuvaamaan enemmän myös ihmisiä, ja mikäpä parempi tapa toteuttaa se kuin aloittaa tämänkaltainen projekti. Toisin sanoen, en ole missään nimessä ammattilainen enkä varmaan ison osan ajasta edes tiedä mitä teen. Olen kuitenkin hyvin intohimoinen valokuvaamista ja tätä projektia kohtaan ja tehdessähän sitä oppii, ja vaikka itse kuvaustilanteet saattavatkin näyttää kiusallisilta, niin eikös vain sillä ole lopulta väliä?

After somehow coming across this blog, you might wonder "what on earth is the non-binary revolution?" which is why this page will be dedicated to answering that question.

To put it shortly, the non-binary revolution is a photography project of non-binary people in Finland. And why is that? Because there is not even nearly enough non-binary representation in this world. Because we aren't seen in movies, in television, in literature, in any mainstream media, and I want to do my part in changing that. Because it can be really hard for us sometimes to find other people like us, people we can relate to, people we can talk to about our similar experiences, people whose way of expressing their non-binary gender or courage of being visibly and unapologetically their non-binary selves we can be inspired by. And that is why I want to make this page a place where absolutely anyone whose gender doesn't fit in the binary can come and see that they are not alone. Because we exist even though the law in this country (and so many others) doesn't recognize us, even though most of the people in this world don't recognize usu. But we are here regardless of thaand this project is a big "fuck you" to all the countries with only two gender options, even bigger "fuck you" to the people who deny our existence and the biggest possible "fuck you" to anyone who doesn't respect us as who we are. How? Because no matter who denies our existence and no matter who mocks us, we are still non-binary, still valuable, definitely not going anywhere and absolutely not giving up on our right to be us. Because us and our diverse experiences need visibility, our voices deserve and need to be heard in this very cisnormative and binary world, and I want to give those experiences and voices a platform. Because more people need to know how we are still fighting for our basic human rights with our binary trans siblings in this so called "welfare state". Because I want to spread knowlege about us to cis people and binary trans people, about how to respect us, how to use language that includes us. Because non-binary is beautiful, and I want to show that to the world. Because we are done being invisible. done Because we won't be silenced.

I will feel like I've succeeded with this project if I make at least one non-binary person feel good and important, if I make at least one person who denies our existence to change their conception, if I make at least one clueless person to change the way they speak about gender to include us. And especially if I reach a "non-binary doesn't have a look" sort of vibe with this project, meaning finding very diverse people to photograph, not only white, thin, androgynous, abled christians or atheists.

ABOUT THE CREATOR

My name is Syksy, I'm a queer agender artist and a trans person. My pronouns are they/them (and he/him). I was born in 2000 and I live in Tampere. My activism is mostly LGBTQIA+ (especially trans) related, but I aspire to do more of it related to human rights in general as well as animal rights and the environment. Even though I've done photography for years now I still consider myself a bit of a newbie. I mostly photograph nature, but it has been my dream for ages to get to photograph more people, and what a better way to do that than start a project like this huh. In other words, I am by no means a professional and most of the time I probably have no idea what I'm doing. But I am truly passionate, about photography and about this project and learning as I go, and even though the photoshooting situations themselves might look really awkward I guess that's all that really matters, right?
